Tucson Arizona Shooting 2011: Sophia Bush Explains Her Connection

One of the victims was a nine-year-old girl names Christina Green who is actually the second cousin of One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush.

Sophia took to her Twitter page today to express her sadness over the situation:

“There are no words to explain what my cousin’s family is going through in Arizona. How can this be? Violence is never the answer… she was my 2nd cousin… Devastating…”

It truly is devastating.

Christina was a September 9/11 baby who was featured in the book “Faces of Hope” which represented children from each state who were born on September 11, 2001.

The shooting suspect, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, is set to appear in court.

A Prayer in Response to the Tuscon, Arizona Shooting

God, our refuge and our fortress, we tremble in the present moment: Our strength has gone; we look for light but find darkness; we are undone. Gather us under your wings and fulfill your promise to be with us in trouble.

Offer your healing presence to those who are injured. Comfort those who mourn the loss of loved ones. Bring those who committed such a terrible crime to justice. Show us your salvation as we put our trust in you, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

moment of silence

President Obama led the nation in a moment of silence on Monday for the victims in the Arizona shooting, standing somberly with his wife, Michelle, their heads bowed, overlooking the South Lawn of the White House.

Mr. and Mrs. Obama stepped outside the White House, and with the toll of a single bell by a Marine guard, silence fell in Washington and across the nation.

Hundreds of Congressional aides gathered on the steps of the East Front of the Capitol to mark the moment. The dead included a member of their own ranks, Gabriel M. Zimmerman, the director of community outreach for Representative Gabrielle Giffords; Mr. Zimmerman had been organizing the sort of constituent event that many staff members have attended themselves without much concern about public safety.

Most lawmakers remained in their home states and districts.

The Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, observed the moment of silence with students at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville, Ky. Mr. McConnell told the students “violence has no place in the Democratic process, and this heinous crime will not deter any of us from carrying out our duties.”
